Now in its sixth year, the Top 25 Attraction Firms ranking is released as part of a key element of the Legal Firm of Choice Survey as a way to gauge the most sought-after employers across the country.

This year painted an interesting picture, with some firms increasing their ranking, others decreasing theirs and some cementing their status as new entrants.

“Australia’s legal profession holds host to one of the country’s most competitive talent markets with numerous legal firms, large multinationals, government agencies and rapidly growing boutiques looking to attract the brightest minds in law,” said Oliver Stofka, research consultant, Momentum Intelligence.

“This year has been a year like no other with the COVID pandemic constantly providing new challenges.

“The Momentum Intelligence Attraction Firm Report is the resource to understand how the legal space has responded to these challenges, which firm is leading the pack in terms of attraction, as well as who is front of mind to all legal professionals when they consider switching firms.”

The methodology

The annual Lawyers Weekly Top 25 Attraction Firms ranking was based on the results from one question in the recent 2020 Momentum Intelligence Legal Firm of Choice Survey, which asked:

“Which firms would you most likely consider a move to if you ever decided to leave your current firm?”, with respondents able to select up to five firms.

This year’s survey was conducted between 1 July and 10 August 2020, recording the views of over 900 legal professionals across Australia.

From this, each of the answers is given a point. The ranking is based on the point system with the firm with the most points given first in the ranking.
