Australian Law Reform Commission welcomes special counsel
A regulation expert has joined the Australian Law Reform Commission’s ranks as new special counsel to lend his expertise in the review of the legislative framework for the corporations and financial services regulation.

Associate Professor Andrew Godwin will join the Australian Law Reform Commission’s (ARLC) ranks after holding a number of senior positions at Melbourne Law School and after many years’ experience in corporate practice. He will be joining the ARLC for the fixed-term secondment commencing in December 2020.
“The calibre of experts overseeing the inquiry will ensure a rigorous, principled and a practical approach to unravelling the complex issues raised in the terms of reference,” said Associate Professor Godwin.
The inquiry provides an opportunity to improve the effectiveness of laws that regulate the financial services by making the laws easier to understand and use. It forms part of the government response to the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services industry released in February 2019.
The ALRC will deliver interim reports on the review of corporations and financial services regulation in November 2021, September 2022 and August 2023 with a final report and recommendations due to be published in November 2023.
