Simon Adams and Caroline Brown join from Holman Fenwick Willan, while Chris Rosario is a “homegrown” promotion from within the firm’s corporate team ranks.

This brings to six the number of new partner appointments in Australia over the past year and reflects the expansion taking place elsewhere around the firm.

Tony Chong, Perth managing partner and head of the Australian Asia Desk, said that Mr Adams and Ms Brown’s appointments signal the firm’s intention to play a leading role in this sector.

“Their expertise and capability [are] essential in order to meet our clients’ growing needs,” he said

“This approach echoes our global strategy of making smart, strategic hires of talented people who will add further depth to our outstanding global energy practice.”

Mr Adams has extensive experience in energy, resources and competition law.

Mr Adams specialises in advising on all aspects of the power and gas industries, including regulated markets and network and pipeline infrastructure. He is a member of the Western Australian energy review board.

Ms Brown practices in energy, competition and regulatory law and disputes. She has broad commercial litigation experience.

Since 2002 Ms Brown has acted for the Economic Regulation Authority in relation to access disputes before a number of courts and review bodies.

“SPB’s global strength in key energy and resources markets and strong reputation in international arbitrations were key factors in our decision to join the firm and we are looking forward to working with our new colleagues around the network,” the pair commented on their decision to join SPB.

Mr Chong also expressed the firm’s delight at the appointment of Mr Rosario.

“Internal advancements to partners are less common now than in the past,” he said.

“Chris’ appointment reflects his technical skills and his ability to provide wise counsel and outstanding service to clients. As a partner of the firm, he can build on his longstanding relationships with our Japanese clients.”

Mr Rosario has significant experience advising listed and unlisted corporations in connection with domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and infrastructure projects.

He spent three years living in Tokyo and working with Itochu Corporation on its investments into Australia, Europe and the Middle East.

Most recently, he advised Itochu as a lead sponsor on its successful consortium bid to design, finance, build and operate an energy from waste facility in Belgrade, the first EFW project in Serbia.

Other recent hires have taken place in London, Singapore, Milan, New York and Dubai, including the launch of the firm’s new commodities and shipping group.
