New appointments to Court of Appeal and Supreme Court
Victoria’s government has welcomed three new appointments to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
Justice Michael Sifris will join the Court of Appeal while Kathryn Stynes and Jim Delaney QC will join the Trial Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria. Victorian Attorney-General Jill Hennessy congratulated the appointees and said both courts will “greatly benefit from their expertise and sound knowledge of the law”.
“Justice Sifris has been dedicated to the Supreme Court [of Victoria] for the past 10 years, and I am grateful for his efforts in reforming a range of court processes for the betterment of all parties,” said Ms Hennessy on his appointment.
Ms Stynes’ is a senior fellow of the Melbourne University Law School where she lectures in construction law in the Melbourne Law master’s program. She was admitted to practice in 1992 and signed the bar roll in 2005, with a bachelor of laws from Monash University.
Mr Delaney has practiced law for four decades, and has a focus on commercial litigation, royal commissions, contract and negligence disputes. He has practiced across all areas of Australian jurisdictions and in arbitrations but predominantly appears in the Federal, in Supreme Courts and in the Court of Appeal for his cases.
Mr Delaney and Justice Sifris have commenced their terms, while Ms Stynes will take up her role from 22 June 2020.
