Firm: DLA Piper (Schréder)

Deal: Global law firm DLA Piper has advised multinational lighting company Schréder Group (Schréder) on its agreement to acquire the infrastructure lighting divisions of Gerard Lighting Group (GLG).

Value: Undisclosed.

Area: Cross-border acquisition.

Key players: DLA Piper’s cross-border team was led by the head of corporate Australia Grant Koch, with special counsel James McCarthy, solicitor Claudia McEwen and foreign legal associate Ditte Lundberg.

Intellectual property and technology partner Nicholas Boyle along with senior associate Alexandra Dagger assisted with transitional arrangements.

Deal significance: Mr Koch commented: “This acquisition represents a significant milestone in Schréder’s growth and evolution, and will allow the company to secure a stronger market position in Australia. We’re delighted our Australian and Belgium teams could support Schréder on this transaction.”

GLG’s outdoor lighting business Sylvania, and indoor lighting business Austube, will serve as a new base for Schréder in Australia.

GLG is majority-owned by Bain Capital Credit and Investec. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of March.
