Firm: DLA Piper (Irvin & Johnson International)

Deal: DLA Piper has advised Irvin & Johnson International (I&J) on the sale of its 40 per cent stake in a joint venture with food manufacturer Simplot Australia.

Value: Undisclosed.

Area: Stakes.

Key players: DLA Piper’s team was led by head of corporate Australia Grant Koch with intellectual property and technology partner Nicholas Boyle and solicitor Claudia McEwan. Lawyers from DLA Piper’s Johannesburg office also supported.

Deal significance: South African-based Irvin & Johnson is a “leading supplier” of frozen fish products. In addition, Simplot Australia is home to a major food brands including Birds Eye, John West, Leggo’s and Edgell.

Mr Koch said: “I&J is an iconic food brand in Australia, and we are pleased to support them on this important transaction. I&J will continue to supply Simplot Australia a part of their close working relationship, and shared commitment to the Australian food service industry.”
