ASX-listed gold miner advised on acquisition and equity raising

DLA Piper is advising ASX-listed gold miner Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited on its latest acquisition and equity raising.

Firm: DLA Piper (Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited)

Deal/value: Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited has acquired Barrick Gold Corporation’s 50 per cent interest in the KCGM joint venture for $1.1 billion, and its $796 million equity raising.

Area: M&A, finance

Key players: The DLA Piper team is being led by Perth partners Michael Bowen, Alex Jones and Rhys Davies with support from special counsel Hedley Roost, Joanne Steer and Roger Hawkins and senior associate Cameron Bill.

Deal significance: According to a statement provided by DLA Piper, the KCGM joint venture owns and operates the Super Pit in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia.

“The transaction will be funded through a combination of debt and equity. Goldman Sachs and RBC Capital Markets are acting as financial advisers to Saracen,” the firm noted.

Commenting further, Mr Bowen said: “We are delighted to be working with Saracen on this transformational acquisition”.

“The acquisition makes strategic sense for Saracen and will position them as one of Australia’s major gold producers,” Mr Bowen said.
