Mr Landau is a “highly experienced” practitioner specialising in M&A, and joins the firm from Herbert Smith Freehills. His expertise “spans all aspects of the life cycle of private equity” which will go a long way for Ashurst’s “global reputation”.

Australia head of corporate transactions Elspeth Arnold said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Ben to Ashurst. He is an exceptional practitioner, with recognised expertise in the PE market. Ben will further strengthen our global breadth in this area.”

Mr Landau’s experience extends across private and public M&A, W+I insurance plans, shareholder arrangements and management incentive plans. Ashurst said he has also specialised in private investments and capital raisings.

On his appointment, Mr Landau said: “Ashurst is in an exciting time of growth, with the excellent global private equity brand with particular focus on building the practice.”

“Ashurst is an outstanding place in which I can continue to develop and grow practice, deepen my client relationships as a partner and contribute as part of a team to grow the firm’s broader corporate practice.”

Mr Landau’s appointment follows the recent appointments of Greg Golding and Rob Hanley, as well as the promotion of Lynda Tully and Anita Choi.
