The firm joins Allens in achieving the NCOS certification for 2018.

Gilbert + Tobin called the accolade a natural progression for its own sustainability program, with its carbon neutrality achievement primarily sourced through carbon credits from Solarise India’s bundled solar power project.

Solarise India’s carbon credits are generated through the development of solar power projects that replace fossil fuel-powered plants, the firm said.

Gilbert + Tobin also made a smaller purchase of carbon credits from the national not-for-profit Aboriginal Carbon Foundation’s Kowanyama Aboriginal Savanna Burning Carbon Project.

The firm explained that savanna burning “effectively reduces or abates carbon emissions as controlled early dry season fires are less intense than uncontrolled late season bush fires”, through the burning of less fuel.

The firm’s sustainability program includes an Australian Legal Sector Alliance certified Environmental Management System and a commitment to publicly report sustainability performance annually to the organisation, as well as a commitment to maintain a five-star NABERS Energy (tenancy) rating for Gilbert + Tobin’s Sydney headquarters.

The program forms part of the firm’s wider commitment to the environment, sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
