Lawyer nominated as Trump’s ambassador to Aus
President Donald Trump has announced his intent to nominate a lawyer as “Ambassador Extraordinary” to Australia.
Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr. has been nominated by the President of the United States to fill the role of diplomat for the United States to the Commonwealth of Australia, which Lawyers Weekly understands has been vacant for two years.
Starting his career as chief legislative assistant to Senator Howard Baker Jr, Mr Culvahouse served as counsel to Ronald Reagan during his term as President of the United States from 1987 to 1989.
According to a statement from the White House, Mr Culvahouse has served on a number of boards and commissions, including the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, the Intelligence Oversight Board, the Nuclear Command and Control System Federal Advisory Committee, and the Supreme Court Fellows Commission.
The lawyer earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Tennessee in 1970 and received his J.D. from New York University’s School of Law in 1973.
He is admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia, New York and Tennessee.
