Known as the Trans and Gender Diverse Legal Service, the initiative will extend to cover the families of trans and gender diverse people.

The service is an extension of the work already done by Inner City Legal Centre to provide free legal advice to vulnerable people in NSW.

As part of the program, transgender people are able to seek advice on matters such as fines, employment, wills, power of attorney, enduring guardianship and family law matters. Assistance is also available for criminal and AVO advice while encompassing representation, name and gender change services.

Dentons partner Ben Allen said the firm was delighted to partner with Inner City Legal Centre on the initiative as “this targeted legal service is the first pro bono service in Australia that focuses specifically on helping trans and gender diverse individuals”.

“Trans and gender diverse individuals face unique legal challenges, and it’s wonderful to be able to provide dedicated support to vulnerable community members,” he continued.

“My hope is that the Trans and Gender Diverse Legal Service will be the first of many free legal service outlets that are dedicated to supporting the trans and gender diverse community.”

The service operates out of a Kings Cross location every second Monday.
