Dentons has confirmed that it will combine with Chile-headquartered law firm Larrain Rencoret Urzua (LRU). It will see Dentons have 33 additional lawyers, who specialise across the full range of practice areas and hold expertise in projects and infrastructure, banking and finance, and mergers and acquisitions.

The combination is expected to launch in the next several months, following partner approval and subject to meeting regulatory requirements.

The move comes as Dentons looks to build on its expansion strategy across Latin America and the Caribbean, a statement from the global heavyweight said. By combining with LRU, Dentons will be able to provide clients access to the expertise and talent of lawyers working in 74 countries.

“The combination in Chile follows recent combinations with two firms launched this year in the Eastern Caribbean and the Cayman Islands. These combinations are forged in the wake of a strategic alliance launched last year with Brazil’s Vella Pugliese Buosi Guidoni, as well as a combination with Gallo Barrios Pickmann in Peru,” the statement said.

“They also follow the earlier launch of Dentons Muñoz in Central America, and of Dentons López Velarde in Mexico and Dentons Cardenas & Cardenas in Colombia. These moves are part of Dentons’ long-term strategy to build our presence in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Commenting further on the significance of the move, Jorge Alers, CEO of Dentons Latin America and the Caribbean region said: “This combination in Chile with a strong firm like LRU will help us continue to attract even more top talent and top law firms in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
