Firm: Norton Rose Fulbright

Deal: The L1 Capital Global Long Short Fund has been launched.

Value: US$300 million

Area: Finance

Key players: The Norton Rose Fulbright team advising L1 Capital was led by Sydney partner Fadi Khoury (pictured), with assistance from Sydney senior associate Susie Li, New York partners Michael Flamenbaum and Steven Howard, London partner Imogen Garner and Toronto partner Michael Bunn.

Deal significance: L1 Capital is an independent equities fund manager whose investment team comprises experienced portfolio managers Raphael Lamm, Mark Landau and Lev Margolin. The team has managed one of the best-performing large-cap Australian equities funds since 2007.

The new offshore fund will employ a long-short investment strategy, which involves buying 'long' and selling 'short' a stock or basket of stocks, in anticipation of profiting from changes in the price differential between the respective long and short positions.

The fund will invest in Australian and international shares as well as derivatives.

L1 Capital will raise capital from institutional and high-net-worth investors in the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Israel, the UK and Australia.

Norton Rose Fulbright partner Mr Khoury said: “I am proud to be associated with this experienced team, as they deploy their strong local investment track record and experience in a global strategy.”
