IN PREPARATION for the federal government’s proposed legislative changes to remove lawyers from the Migration Agents Registration Authority, the MIA has put in place strategies to best accommodate its lawyer members, which include the following:
- Constitutional changes to include membership for lawyers who are not RMAs.
- Increasing the number of Immigration Essentials for Lawyers courses throughout Australia.
- Provision of legislative and policy changes essential for practice.
- Professional support and triage on behalf of members with complex matters with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
- Comprehensive and practical CPDs in the area of migration law.
- Formation of special interest groups for lawyers who work in the area of migration.
- Networking opportunities in each state.
- Establishment of a national register of lawyers with expertise in migration law.
In addition to the above, the MIA oVers a number of marketing opportunities for its lawyer members such as the vehicle to market to potential clients on the MIA website, the use of the MIA logo on your electronic and paper material as an endorsement of membership of the prestigious and well-recognised peak body for practitioners working in the area of migration law.
