Private equity firm invests in FX broker

Two firms have advised on CHAMP Private Equity’s investment into Pepperstone, a Melbourne-based Forex and CFD broker.

Deal: Funds managed by CHAMP Private Equity made a strategic investment in Melbourne-based global foreign exchange and CFD broker, Pepperstone.

Area: Private equity

Key players: The King & Wood Mallesons team was led by partners Mark McNamara (pictured), Yuen Yee Cho and Mark McFarlane, with support from senior associate Matt Coull and solicitor Nick Ferrari.

Deal significance: Pepperstone was founded in 2010 by Owen Kerr and Joe Davenport and is now one of the top 10 FX brokers globally, according to a release from KWM.

It offers platforms for both retail and institutional clients and has offices in Melbourne, Shanghai and Dallas.

The significant investment from CHAMP Private Equity will enable Pepperstone to further expand its reach and support its ambition to be the world’s number one FX broker.
