KWM gets capital raising off the ground

King & Wood Mallesons has advised Macquarie Group Limited on a capital raising to help fund its US$4 (AU$5.19) billion acquisition of an aircraft operating lease portfolio.

Deal: Macquarie Group Limited’s capital raising to partly fund the US$4 (AU$5.19) billion acquisition of a 90-aircraft operating lease portfolio from AWAS Aviation Capital Limited.

Value: The deal involved a capital raising proposed to consist of a AU$500 million institutional placement and a share purchase plan to eligible Australian and New Zealand shareholders of up to AU$10,000 worth of shares per eligible shareholder (subject to scale-back).

Area: Capital markets

Key players: The KWM team was led by partner Evie Bruce (pictured), supported by solicitor Andrew Dwyer.

US-headquartered global firm Sidley Austin acted for AWAS Aviation Capital Limited.

Deal significance: Commenting on the deal, Ms Bruce said, “The institutional placement and share purchase plan enables Macquarie to continue their strategy of acquiring high-quality assets at a time when the markets are conducive.”
