An insolvency and restructuring lawyer has left his role as special counsel at Clayton Utz to join Norton Rose Fulbright as a partner in Melbourne.

An insolvency and restructuring lawyer has left his role as special counsel at Clayton Utz to join Norton Rose Fulbright as a partner in Melbourne.

Peter Bowden is an Australian and UK-qualified lawyer, with significant experience advising banks, insolvency practitioners, hedge funds, creditors and debtors on restructuring, insolvency, workouts, banking and distressed debt transactions.

He has also developed a broad practice in industries such as mining, mining services, property, construction, agriculture and manufacturing.

Mr Bowden worked at Clayton Utz for five years, after stints with Blake Dawson in Melbourne and Ashurst in Tokyo.

Norton Rose Fulbright recently promoted six Australian lawyers to its partnership, including Jeffery Black in Perth and Tim Mornane in Sydney to the restructuring and insolvency team.

Wayne Spanner, Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia, said the addition of Mr Bowden would be a fillip to the firm’s national financial restructuring and insolvency team.

"This has been a big year for our restructuring and insolvency team," Mr Spanner said.

"Bringing Peter on board in Melbourne to sit alongside the national head of the team, Steven Palmer, together with the promotions of Tim Mornane and Jeffery Black, will add considerable depth to our national capability."

Norton Rose Fulbright also recently recruited Samantha Kelly and Jacques Jacobs from DLA Piper, but lost partner Charmian Barton to HWL Ebsworth.
