Dr Hughes (pictured) is joining Davies Collison Cave with almost 20 years experience in the area of information technology law, data protection, intellectual property commercialisation, and e-commerce and data privacy.
He is also a former president of the Victorian Society for Computers and the Law and is chairman of the LAWASIA Business Law Section.
"Our clients have told us they would like us to expand our IT, law, e-commerce, and data privacy services. This appointment has been made in order to meet our clients' needs," Davies Collison Cave lead partner, Chris Jordan said.
Dr Hughes said his role at Davies Collison Cave is an opportunity for him to continue the work he has been doing.
"IT law, data protection law and IP law are all closely linked," Dr Hughes said.
