Two-time winner of Lawyers Weekly awards Ajay Khandhar (pictured left) has been recognised as the Young Professional of the Year 2014 at the inaugural India Australia Business & Community Awards (IABCA).
After working as a graduate at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers in 2010, he moved across to K&L Gates (then Middletons), winning Lawyers Weekly’s Young Gun Award for his work in the firm’s labour, employment and workplace safety practice.
A year later he was back in the Lawyers Weekly spotlight as co-winner of the 2013 Workplace Relations, Employment and Safety Award. He now works as an associate at Minter Ellison and acts as vice chair of the NSW Young Lawyers' Workplace and Safety Law Committee.
Khandhar told Lawyers Weekly he was “thrilled and humbled” to be the only lawyer recognised by the IABCA this year.
The award was presented by NSW Minister for Finance and Services Dominic Perrottet, which was a “happy coincidence” for Khandhar since Perrottet is also the minister responsible for safety and return to work in NSW – Khandhar’s area of practice.
The IABCA acknowledges the role played by more than 140,000 Indian Australian migrants in the NSW business community.
The awards were presented at a charity gala held at Sydney Town Hall on 31 October, which raised money for the not-for-profit White Ribbon Foundation, a charity focused on preventing domestic violence against women.
