Sydney law firm Addisons has just announced the appointment of a former Granada Productions in-house lawyer.
The New Lawyer has just had word that Sydney-based law firm Addisons has appointed media and communications sector expert Andrew Dawson as special counsel.
The firm says Dawson, who was until recently the commercial and legal director of Granada Productions Australia, brings strong technical skills plus solid commercial experience to Addisons' technology and intellectual property team.
It says the boost in lawyer numbers comes as all sectors of the media and communications industries face unprecedented levels of technological, regulatory and legislative change.
Dawson himself suggested new entrants to the field are coming with an increased interest in cross-platform information and entertainment services.
There is also a raft of support industries supplying services as diverse as film-set generators and air conditioning, editing, digital post production, outside broadcast and satellite services all needing specialist legal support, he said.
“These firms all need legal support from a firm that understands the media and communications sector, and also the fast changing nature of this business,” Dawson said.
According to Addisons partner Jamie Nettleton, Dawson’s skills and experience complement the firm’s already strong team working in this area.
