Lawyers Weekly editor Justin Whealing looks at the top stories of the month.

In a Lawyers Weekly exclusive, a Clayton Utz partner and an Allens partner have been poached by Baker & McKenzie to spearhead a planned Brisbane office. It is understood that Bakers is looking to open its Brisbane office in either June or July this year.

We also look at why it’s getting tougher to make partner. Lawyers Weekly asked John Chisholm, a former chief executive of Middletons who now heads his own consultancy, and Sparke Helmore’s national managing partner Jesse Webb about how the profession has changed since they took their first partner roles.

Lawyers Weekly also speaks with the finalists of the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards, who cited billable hours and flexible work options as areas where the profession needs reform.
