QC appointed to Crime and Corruption Commission
The Queensland Law Society (QLS) has welcomed Alan MacSporran QC as chair of the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Mr MacSporran was floated as a candidate in June, when political issues delayed the appointment. It was only confirmed last week (30 July).
“The society is confident [Mr MacSporran] will bring a welcome combination of legal expertise, integrity and independence to the role.”
Mr MacSporran is a former crown prosecutor in the Queensland office of the federal Director of Public Prosecutions and a leading barrister.
He has assisted with several inquiries, such as the inquest into the Childers backpackers fire (2006), the equine influenza inquiry (2007-2009) and the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry (2011-2012).
Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath said Mr MacSporran was a “well-respected legal representative” who was highly qualified for the position.
"[Mr MacSporran] has already demonstrated the tenacity and dedication necessary for this role in his vast career, which includes extensive experience in commissions of inquiry, investigative work and in complex, high-level trials," Ms D'Ath said.
Mr Fitzgerald said the government was living up to its commitment to merit-based selection processes for key public service positions.
“We look forward to the filling of other important vacancies in the commission – the remaining commissioners and the CEO,” he said.
