Minter Ellison has promoted from within to replace private equity partner Cal O'Brien, who will leave the firm at the end of this month.

Sauer’s appointment was announced at the start of this month (1 July) as part of eight partner, five special counsel and 25 senior associate promotions at Minters.
O’Brien spent over a decade in the Minters partnership advising on private equity transactions of prominent companies, such as Quadrant Private Equity, Next Capital and Allegro. He also provided counsel to Anchorage, the company he is now managing, in regards to its investments in Dick Smith and Golden Circle.
Martin Bennett, head of private equity at Minters, said: “We are obviously going to miss Cal, but everyone here at Minter Ellison is thrilled for him”.
During his 14-year career, Glen Sauer has advised private equity funds on transactions in Australia, Asia and Europe and developed a particular expertise in the technology, media and telecommunications sector.
Recently, he managed a number of significant private equity transactions, such as Quadrant’s acquisition of APN Outdoor and the sale of Discovery Holiday Parks by Next Capital, Allegro and Macquarie.
