McCullough Robertson has named native title expert Dominic McGann as its new chairman of partners.

McGann (pictured) has been a partner at the firm for more than 17 years. The Brisbane-based lawyer was previously the executive director at Queensland Crown Law and, prior to that, the executive director of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General in Queensland.

McGann succeeds outgoing chairman Brett Heading, who will return to full-time legal practice after a 10-year tenure as chairman and another 19 years in leadership and management roles.

Commenting on his appointment, McGann pledged to grow the firm despite “challenging times”. He singled out the emergence of new firms, the broader decline in the economy and slower than expected recovery from the GFC in some sectors as affecting the “willingness of some traditional clients to utilise lawyers as much as they might have in the past”.

McCullough Robertson has 50 partners across its offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Newcastle.
