Women take lead at lecture series

Justice Margaret Beazley will head an all-female list of prominent judicial speakers at a legal conference next month.

The Salvos Legal Lecture Series, to be held in Sydney on Saturday 9 March, features Justice Margaret Beazley (pictured), the newly-appointed president of the NSW Court of Appeal, who will be addressing the topic of Good Faith in Contract: Dodo or Phoenix?.

Beazley will be joined by Justice Julie Ward from the Supreme Court of NSW, Judge Elizabeth Olsson SC of the NSW District Court, Judge Helen Syme of the NSW District Court and Justice Ann Ainslie-Wallace of the Family Court of Australia.

“Salvos Legal was a sponsor of the inaugural Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards in 2012,” said Luke Geary, the managing partner of Salvos Legal. “Women exceed 55 per cent of employed solicitors at Salvos Legal and Salvos Legal Humanitarian. This next lecture series represents a commitment by Salvos Legal to have a full program of five eminent speakers, all of whom are women from the judiciary.”

A lawyer’s duties to the court and Advocacy: A view from the bench are two of the topics that will be addressed.

Solicitors and barristers may claim one MCLE/CPD point for each hour of attendance.
