Former federal court judge Marcus Einfeld has sacked his lawyers and is unlikely to dispute his disbarring from the NSW Bar Association.
Einfeld has already been stripped of his Order of Australia and his Queen's Counsel appointment, but is yet to be removed from the legal roll.
Einfeld is serving a minimum two-year jail sentence after pleading guilty in March to perverting the course of justice and making a false statement to police.
Einfeld was giving evidence in a speeding fine dispute for $77 when he made the offence. On January 8, 2006 Einfeld's car was photographed by a speed camera travelling 10km above the speed limit, to avoid the fine, Einfeld told police the car was being driven at that time by a friend from overseas, who was later revealed to be deceased.
It is understood that Einfeld's lawyers are no longer acting for him and a NSW Bar Association lawyer has agreed to act "as a conduit" to pass information on to the imprissioned Einfeld. The matter will next be heard on July 23.
