Piper Alderman has hired a partner from King and Wood Mallesons in a bid to boost its intellectual property and technology group. The firm attributes the hire to a trend of lawyers leaving large newly merged firms.
Prior to entering the law, Chew spent 10 years in the IT industry.
Managing partner Tony Phelps attributes the hire to the string of global law firm mergers.
“The global mergers we have witnessed in the Australian legal market have resulted in many senior lawyers finding their client’s needs are no longer the focus of their firm,” he said.
“Many good people are moving to firms that better suit their personal vision, their expertise and their client base.
Chew will be based in the Sydney Office.
