LAW firm Thomson Playford Cutlers has secured the appointment of an employment law expert from rival Melbourne firm Russell Kennedy.

Thomson Playford has boosted its workplace relations and employement group with the appointment of Paul Ronfeldt, who has joined the firm’s Melbourne office.

On top of 18 years as a solicitor, Ronfeldt has advised state and federal governments on workplace relations and occupational health and safety policy.

“This appointment reflects our continued confidence in this practice area and adds further depth to our highly credentialed team,” said the firm’s chief executive partner Adrian Tembel.

Ronfeldt will be a member of a five partner national team, and the employment practice, which has doubled in size over the past year.

Tembel puts the growth down to reforms such as changes to the Fair Work Act, which has extended the reach of industrial awards into businesses, has created some uncertainty in relation to employers’ obligations.

The forthcoming introduction of the new national OHS scheme is also likely to pose potential confusion for employers who are expected to be seeking specialist legal advice to ensure they are up-to speed on the reforms, he said.
