Rob Wannan has been appointed chairman of the board as the firm moves to finalise its governance structure. 

Currently acting as a consultant to Kemp Strang, Wannan himself said the newly-created role will help to ensure the board acts effectively and efficiently.

“As Kemp Strang has evolved, the firm has given careful consideration to the most suitable governance structure and believes the board model, with a chairman and a managing partner, best fits our needs. We can make decisions quickly, access the skills and expertise of a range of partners when required, and ensure the firm continues to develop,” he said.

Wannan joined Kemp Strang in 2001 as part of a merger between Greaves Wannan & Williams, and has worked as a consultant for the firm since that time.

“I have a strong connection with this firm and its people, so I’m pleased to be in a role where I can contribute to the firm’s success and help it meet the needs of  clients and employees,” Wannan said.

Kemp Strang has also announced that partner John Coates will be moving into the role of special counsel. 

Coates, who is also deputy chairman of David Jones and vice-president of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport, said the move will ensure he balances his time effectively . 

Coates said that given the time and travel commitments that come with an IOC appointment, acting as special counsel is an opportunity for him to stay connected with the firm in a meaningful way.
