Macquarie man gets on board with ACICA
The head of litigation at the Macquarie Group, Craig Pudig, has been appointed to the board of Australia’s foremost commercial dispute resolution body.

Pudig’s appointment as a director and the 29th board member of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA) is an acknowledgement of the increasing number of disputes in the global financial sector.
Prior to joining the Macquarie Group in 2008, Pudig (pictured) was a colleague of Jones at Clayton Utz, and the firm’s Sydney managing partner for six years.
Pudig told Lawyers Weekly that personal connection with Jones was an important factor in his decision to join the ACICA board.
“I have a very high regard for Doug and that was one of the factors that I took into account when accepting the position.”
Pudig initially joined Macquarie in an investment banking role, but has been the company’s head of litigation for almost two years. During that time he has overseen a number of high-profile matters, including proceedings brought against Macquarie following the collapse of Storm Financial in 2009.
In June, Pudig was one of a number of high-profile panellists at the Commercial Dispute Resolution – The 2020 Vision conference sponsored by Lawyers Weekly, Gilbert + Tobin and The Trillium Group.
Despite his title as the head of litigation, at the conference, Pudig expressed his preference to use alternate dispute resolution and to settle matters.
“I have never ever been involved in any sort of case either as poacher or gamekeeper when someone has come to us to mediate and I have thought they are weak,” he said.
Other panellists included the NSW chief justice Tom Bathurst QC and Tom Howe QC, chief counsel, dispute resolution, with the Australian Government Solicitor.
Pudig’s appointment to the ACICA Board is for three years.
Other board members include Michael Kirby, Clifford Chance partner Tim Grave, Malcolm Holmes QC and Angela Bowne SC.
