Westgarth to chair disputes tribunal
The immediate past-president of the NSW Law Society, Stuart Westgarth, has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal.

The immediate past-president of the NSW Law Society, Stuart Westgarth (pictured), has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal (CTTT).
Law Society president Justin Dowd said Westgarth’s appointment is a testament to his skill as a lawyer and his commitment to the profession over many years.
“Stuart’s expertise in corporate, commercial and banking litigation and his extensive experience in dispute resolution make him ideally suited to this important leadership role within the CTTT,” said Dowd.
Westgarth is recognised as a thought leader within the NSW legal profession, especially for initiating the Advancement of Women in the Profession program last year.
“The Law Society and the profession in NSW have both benefitted greatly from Stuart’s commitment and dedication, and we are greatly indebted to him for this” said Dowd, adding that he wished Westgarth well in his new role.
The announcement was made by the NSW Fair Trading Minister Anthony Roberts on 12 October. Westgarth will commence his role with the CTTT in January 2013.
He was admitted to practice as a solicitor in 1975. He has been managing partner at Corrs Chamber Westgarth and now heads the Sydney litigation group at HWL Ebsworth. He is also a director of the Law Council of Australia.
