Six appeal at Lavan

Lavan Legal has appointed a special counsel, two senior associates and three associates in its round of mid-year promotions.

Energy and resources lawyer and geologist Tim Hicks joins Lavan Legal as a special counsel in the corporate services group. He has worked primarily in the Australian oil, gas and minerals sector since 1995 on a diverse portfolio of exploration and development projects and M&A transactions.

Hicks has a record of successfully executing exploration, green and brown field development projects, M&A transactions and energy supply contracts. He previously advised Woodside Energy as in-house counsel on its producing Australian oil and gas assets and has most recently worked in west Perth advising a privately-owned underground mining services provider.

Graham Miller was promoted to senior associate, also in the corporate services group. Miller practises primarily in corporate and commercial law, with a particular emphasis on energy and resources. He has experience in the electricity and gas sectors, having advised on contractual, market and regulatory issues.

Tim Morgan was promoted to senior associate in the property services group, brining experience in land development, the acquisition and disposal of assets and financing of projects. Morgan specialises in Strata Titles Act compliance, including preparation of off-the-plan sales contracts and all aspects of advisory work in relation to strata schemes.

Anita Barnes was promoted to associate in the same group, bringing experience in mining, major projects, corporate law, water law and native title, including working on the Ord River Project and the Oakajee Port Rail matters. Barnes has advised on share sale agreements, target statements for takeover of publicly-listed companies, sale of mining tenement agreements, sale of large commercial businesses and comprehensive sale of land and lease documents for large-scale transactions.

Lital Hymans and Philippa Honey stepped up to associate level in the commercial advice and litigation group. Hymans is currently involved in several commercial and corporate litigation matters in the High Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court, both in Western Australia and Victoria. Honey, whose appointment commences 1 October 2012, is currently involved in several minor and major commercial and corporate litigation matters in the District Court of Western Australia, the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Australia.
