Special counsel Mick Garner and consultant Keith Nathan have both held senior positions within leading law firms and have significant experience in superannuation, investment and funds.

Garner was previously a special counsel at Allens and, prior to that, a partner in one of the largest law firms in South Africa.

He specialises in funds management and superannuation, focusing on off-market acquisitions, investment mandates, trustee corporate governance, regulatory and dispute resolution issues.

He has advised a number of Australia's prominent fund managers and superannuation funds in relation to off-market acquisitions of interests in, and divestments from, collective investment and other private equity structures.

Prior to joining Maddocks, Nathan was a partner and consultant at DLA Piper. He has over 25 years experience in funds management, with a particular focus on investment for superannuation and other large wholesale funds.

Nathan regularly advises on appointing master custodians and investment managers and undertaking legal due diligences for alternative investments, including private equity, hedge funds and REITs.

He has acted for trustees of large superannuation funds in respect of investments, largely in the wholesale market. He has also acted for many years for public sector borrowers and merchant and overseas banks, providing advice on banking and securities law.
