DMAW Lawyers appoints 1st executive general manager
South Australia-based law firm DMAW Lawyers has appointed its first executive general manager for the newly created leadership position.
Bernice Witkowski has been promoted from her previous role as people and culture manager and is the first non-lawyer to take charge of the firm.
In addition, she will be responsible for the implementation of the firm’s new strategy plan.
One of the founding principals of the firm, Leo Walsh, stated that Ms Witkowski was the right person to lead the role.
“Her personal commitment to creating an environment for our employees to thrive has seen her form strong relationships right across the firm and also gain valuable insight into our operations and client services,” said Mr Walsh.
“Bernice will oversee day-to-day management of the firm with responsibility for financial performance, strategy, human resources, premises, procurement, marketing, IT and compliance.”
Ms Witkowski brings with her 20 years of experience in business and professional services with a focus on people management. Prior to working for DMAW Lawyers, she served as a human resources manager for OLR, an IT services and consulting firm based in London.
She holds a bachelor of business from the University of South Australia and is a graduate of the Melbourne Business School General Management Program.
Ms Witkowski said she was looking forward to her new role and responsibilities, stating that she was privileged to be part of the firm’s new growth.
She described her new role as a natural extension of her previous areas and projects she has been working on in her non-traditional human resource position.
“I’m incredibly proud to be a part of this progressive South Australian law firm, and it is a great privilege to be entrusted with driving the next phase of our growth,” said Ms Witkowski.
“The size of our business, and the work we attract, affords our team members the opportunity to get involved in a variety of quality matters and projects that challenge them while offering great career development.”
She emphasised that she was committed to providing development services and progression opportunities for her company’s staff, including a focus on attracting and developing talent within the company.
