Matthew Carney, who has been with the firm since 2019, has been named as Baker Love’s newest partner. The solicitor has led the family and criminal practice at Baker Love since joining in April 2019.

In addition, Abby Thorne has joined Baker Love – and has specialist expertise in civil litigation, wills, estates and family law. Her practical experience in wills and estates is accompanied by her current study of a master’s of applied law, majoring in wills and estates and family.

Mr Carney said he hopes to use his new position to expand the expert services provided at the firm, seeing demand in the community for superior legal services across a number of areas, despite the impact of COVID-19.

“I am very excited to be joining the partnership of Baker Love Lawyers and I look forward to working with my fellow partners to maintain the excellent reputation the firm enjoys both locally and nationally,” he said.

“The family law practice area continues to grow, but we are also seeing demand in other areas. There are plans to increase our presence in the Newcastle and national market, aided by the recent redevelopment of our website and the addition of new lawyers and support staff.”

Commenting on her new position, Ms Thorne said that she “was attracted to Baker Love as it provides the opportunity to work with an accredited family law specialist with a stellar reputation”.

“Already, I can say I love working at Baker Love as I have been able to apply my knowledge and experience widely across many settings,” she said.

“I hope to provide my clients with the reliable and quality legal services the firm is known for so they feel confident and supported from beginning to end of their matter”.
