the AUSTRALIAN Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has announced the appointment of Tony D’Aloisio as chairman and Jeffrey Lucy AM as a commissioner.
D’Aloisio was appointed as a full-time commissioner of ASIC in November last year for a three-year term. He has extensive public and private sector experience and has been involved in business policy and regulation for over 30 years. He recently held the position of managing director and chief executive officer of the Australian Stock Exchange. He was also the one-time managing partner of Mallesons Stephen Jaques.
Lucy began at ASIC in 2003 as a commissioner, progressing to the position of acting ASIC chairman at the end of 2003, and appointed chairman in 2004.
A chartered accountant, Lucy is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA), the National Institute of Accountants and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He was made a member of the Order of Australia for his contribution to the accounting profession, particularly through the ICAA and to the business sector as an adviser on corporate and taxation reform.
“I am delighted that [Lucy] has agreed to continue his valued service to the Commission as a commissioner based in Adelaide,” Treasurer Peter Costello said.
“The continued service of [Lucy] and the appointment of [D’Aloisio] as chairman will ensure continuity with the operation of the commission.”
