A FORMER commissioner of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has returned to private practice at DLA Phillips Fox as special counsel for the firm’s government law team.

Jennifer McNeill returns to private practice at the firm’s Canberra office, having gleaned extensive experience in competition law, regulatory compliance, consumer protection and commercial and government litigation in her role at the ACCC. She is an accredited specialist in commercial litigation and mediation, as well as a regular presenter at academic and industry events. Positive about the appointment, McNeill said that “there is no doubt that joining DLA Phillips Fox means I can pursue my career ambitions and taken on top-quality work while managing my family responsibilities,” she said.

According to Gary Rumble, partner in the Canberra-based government law practice, McNeill has a reputation for being a very tough, astute commercial litigator. “After her experience in private practice, and working with government, she brings an acute awareness of both sides of compliance and what is needed for ‘good housekeeping’ for both private and government clients,” he said.

Anthony Willis, DLA Phillips Fox’s national government practice group leader, agreed: “McNeill’s choice of DLA Phillips Fox as the firm with which to resume her private sector career shows that the firm is succeeding in its aim to be a leader in the provision of government and regulatory legal services.” He said the firm was excited about the additional quality McNeill adds to the team.
