Firms: Maddocks (Hair and Beauty Group); undisclosed (Silk Laser Australia Ltd).

Deal: The Hair and Beauty Group has sold Australian Skin Clinics to Silk Laser Australia Ltd. The deal sees the latter acquire 100 per cent of the shares.

Value: $52 million.

Area: M&A.

Key players: The legal team advising Hair & Beauty Group was led by Maddocks corporate partner Greg Hipwell, with assistance from senior associate Elizabeth Lilley and lawyer Alisha Shamim.

Deal significance: As per a statement provided by Maddocks, the acquisition will see Australian Skin Clinic’s 56 outlets in Australia and New Zealand added to the Silk Laser Clinics stable.

“We have acted for the founder families of the Hair and Beauty Group for many years and it was very satisfying to assist them and their co-investors on a successful exit from Australian Skin Clinics,” lead partner Mr Hipwell said.

“Maddocks advised the shareholders of the Hair and Beauty Group when they purchased Australian Skin Clinics from the original owner and merged it with the Ella Rouge network in 2017. At the time, the entry into the skin care and cosmeceuticals industry was a significant departure from the traditional hair and beauty business of Hairhouse and it has proved very rewarding.

“The sale positions Silk Laser Australia Ltd as one of the largest operators in the industry in Australia and New Zealand.”
