Construction company makes successful bid in solar farm development

Australian law firm Maddocks has advised a construction company on its successful bid to build and maintain two new Aussie solar farm projects.

Firm: Maddocks (PCL Constructors Pacific Rim Pty Ltd).

Deal: PCL Constructors Pacific Rim Pty Ltd (PCL) has secured the contracts to be the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance provider (O&M) for the Woolooga and West Wyalong solar farms.

Value: Undisclosed.

Area: Finance, energy and resources.

Key players: The legal team advising PCL has led by Maddocks special counsel Sefton Warner, with support from partners Andrew Pitney and Andrew Chapman, senior associate Michael Copeland and lawyer Victoria Mellor.

Deal significance: As per a statement provided by Maddocks, the Woolooga project, situated in Queensland, will have a capacity of 214 MWdc, while the West Wyalong project, in NSW, will have a capacity of 107 MWdc. Both projects are sponsored by Lightsource bp Australia, the firm said.

“These projects in Australia form part of the growing number of solar assets under construction by Canadian-based parent company PCL Construction, which includes the Gunnedah Solar Farm in New South Wales,” it added.

Commenting further, Mr Warner said: “Maddocks is delighted to assist an experienced international EPC contractor expand their renewable operations in Australia with these two new solar farm projects, notwithstanding the recent challenges presented by the impact of COVID-19 on the supply chain.”
