Beach Energy nabs Cooper Basin assets

Johnson Winter & Slattery has advised Beach Energy on its acquisition of Cooper Basin assets, worth $87.5 million.

Deal: Beach Energy has acquired Senex Energy’s Cooper Basin portfolio of assets.

Key players: The Johnson Winter & Slattery team was led by partners Peter Rose and James Marshall, alongside partner Andrew Wilton, special counsel Wolfgang Hellmann, senior associate Tom Barrett and associates Haerim Nam, Cloe Woodward, Charles Jordan, Grace Black, Hayley Andersen and Isabel McElhinney.

Deal significance: A statement from Johnson Winer & Slattery explained that under the transaction Beach Energy will acquire an “extensive exploration and production portfolio and become the sole operator in the Western Flank of the Cooper Basin”.

“Beach has a long history of operating in the Cooper Basin and this acquisition will consolidate its position as one of the leading oil and natural gas exploration and production companies in the basin,” Mr Rose added.

The transaction will provide Beach with the opportunity to capitalise on synergies in field operations, delivering opportunities to unlock further value for shareholders.”

The transaction is expected to be completed in early 2021.
