Global firm announces new managing partner duo
DLA Piper Australia has announced that a managing partner duo will take the reins from John Weber in the new year.
Two managing partners are set to take the reins from John Weber in January, before he retires in April next year.
Ms Upton will be client, sector and integration-focused, while Mr Holding will focus on the operational aspects of the firm, including financial performance and administration.
“I'm looking forward to working with Melinda as the co-managing partner of DLA Piper in Australia, as we lead our talented partner group in delivering on our strategic plan and ensuring that the firm, our partners and all our staff reach their full potential,” Mr Holding told Lawyers Weekly.
Ms Upton said the pair will continue to focus on greater collaboration and integration across practices, sectors and geographies.
“This is a very exciting time for DLA Piper, and we've certainly gained real momentum in the Australian market,” she said.
“As one of the world's largest law firms, we are focused on collaborating with clients and partners of the firm all over the world, to leverage the talents and reach of the firm globally for the benefit of our clients.”
Since joining DLA Piper in 2012, Ms Upton has been appointed head of the intellectual property and technology group in Australia.
“I am delighted to take on the role of co-managing partner in Australia,” she said.
Until recently, Mr Holding, a specialist in major infrastructure and energy and resources, served as managing partner of the firm’s Brisbane office. He joined DLA Piper as a partner back in 2011.
“DLA Piper has made great progress towards our strategy to more closely align the Australian practice with the global firm, particularly over the past two years,” Mr Holding said.
“We've deepened our technical capability in target practice areas, and focused on innovation and flexibility to deliver the best possible service for our clients.
“I look forward to taking on the role of co-managing partner as we continue to deliver a high-quality and seamless cross-border offering for our clients.”
Mr Weber, who has led the firm in Australia for more than two years, will remain as a member of the firm’s leadership until he retires.
