Thynne + Macartney has welcomed Jessica Carroll (pictured) to its business advisory and dispute resolution team as a lawyer.

Ms Carroll has almost five years’ experience in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Her resume includes disputes related to commercial contracts, Australian Consumer Law, trade practices, negligence, bankruptcy and debt recovery.

Ms Carroll also has experience in Land Court proceedings, having advised and acted on behalf of both mining corporations and statutory bodies.

Her other clients include large companies, directors, political parties, politicians and high-net-wealth individuals.

Thynne + Macartney has also announced two special counsel appointments.

Julian Troy has joined the commercial dispute resolution team, while Clayton Payne has been selected for the firm’s employment and industrial relations practice.

Mr Troy brings to the role more than 13 years’ experience in building and construction law, including front- and back-end work, and commercial litigation.

Prior to his new position, Mr Troy worked in-house for GHD and Alstom Limited. He specialises in construction litigation, including payment disputes under the BCIP Act and subcontractors’ charges claims.

Meanwhile, Mr Payne joins Thynne + Macartney with 20 years’ experience under his belt, working with employers and businesses to navigate through workplace-related matters.

His work includes drafting and advising on industrial instruments, advising and providing representation in relation to unlawful discrimination and sexual harassment matters, advising and providing advice on work health and safety matters, and policy development and training.

Thynne + Macartney chairman of partners Bill Loughnan said the three new appointments are in line with the firm’s rapid growth plans.

“Two years ago we made a strategic decision to grow organically through acquisition of talented individuals rather than through merger,” he said.

“We looked for people with significant experience with complex business and legal questions who had the depth of expertise to guide clients to commercially viable solutions in line with their goals.”

Last year Thynne + Macartney acquired two new partners.

Mark Winn joined the firm’s business advisory and dispute resolution team and Karen Gaston came on board as head of private clients.
