BELL GULLY was the only New Zealand law firm to score a ranking in the Global Competitive Review’s (GCR) list of the top 100 competition law practices. It was the third year running the firm had made it onto the list.

The list is produced by researchers and is based on criteria including the degree of competition specialisation, policy involvement and recent successes.

Bell Gully partner Phil Taylor, who leads the firm’s competition practice group, said the recognition was a reflection of its clients. “Their faith in choosing us as their advisers means we have the privilege of working on some of the most challenging and interesting competition law matters.”

Air New Zealand, TelstraClear, Rank Group and Carter Holt Harvey are among those clients. The firm is also frequently engaged to advise on the New Zealand aspects of multinational transactions, including Reuters on the New Zealand competition implications of its acquisition of Moneyline Telerate, a global provider of real time financial information; and Sony Corporation on the New Zealand competition implications of the merger of its recorded music interests with those of BMG.
