THE GLOBAL demand for lawyers, and the impact of growth in China and throughout Asia, was evident in the hefty amount of appointments made by two international firms to their Asian offices this week.
Allen & Overy has appointed Jason Humphreys to the international capital markets and banking group in Tokyo; Linda Lee to the Singapore corporate group; Will McAuliffe to Hong Kong’s corporate group; Walter Son to Hong Kong’s international capital markets group, and Matthias Voss to the Shanghai banking group.
The firm’s head of Asian practice, Brian Harrison, said the five new partners demonstrated Allen & Overy’s commitment to the growing markets in the region.
Co-head of O’Melveny & Myers’ China practice, Howard Chao, said it was the firm was the busiest it had ever been as a result of China’s continued expansion and new business brought to the firm by Mike Moser, who recently joined from Freshfields.
The firm indicated it would also be looking to hire more partners. Moser said he joined the firm because of its leading platform in China, “and others will be making that same determination”.
