THE AUSTRLALIAN Wind Energy Association (Auswind) will make a manual available in the coming weeks for lawyers who are involved in advising on the legal aspects of windfarm developments.

The publication is called “Manual on Legal and Financial Risks — Wind Farm Projects.”

Wind energy is the fastest growing source of electricity worldwide - having now reached 50,000 megawatts (MW) of installation. The industry employs around 100,000 people, and the value of global installations is expected to increase to AUD 25 billion by 2010.

The Australian industry also has $1.7 billion of capital investment in place and a great deal more waiting to be invested, given the right conditions, said Rob Clancy, media and community relations manager for Auswind.

Last week the Victorian government announced the Victorian Renewable Energy Target scheme, making way for a significant increase in windfarm applications and developments in the coming years, according to Auswind.

Auswind and the Global Wind Energy Council will also organise a conference — Global Windpower 2006 — in Adelaide this September.
