AN AWARD recognising support of people with disabilities was presented to socially responsible firm Sparke Helmore last month.
Sparke Helmore employee, Greg Pope, received an Achievement in Employment Award. Pope is a mail services clerk in the Sydney office, where he has served the firm for the past five years.
Anne Thorn, general manager of Macarthur Disability Services, said that “it’s through the commitment of socially responsible employers like Sparke Helmore that people with a disability can lead a very active working life”.
The firm operates its S.H.A.R.E. scheme (Sparke Helmore Assistance, Responsibility and Encouragement), which aims to benefit the communities in which the firm operates around the country through targeted pro bono legal assistance, community support and mentoring to encourage achievement.
Sparke Helmore was recognised alongside major Australian corporations for longstanding support for employment of people with a disability, such as Coles Myer, McDonald’s and Spotlight.
