Banking lawyers assess GFC's disaster zone
A discussion on just how bad the global financial crisis has been for lawyers working in the banking and finance sectors may see the world shed a few crocodile tears.

But it's the legal landscape that will take centre stage in the April conference, to be presented by the International Bar Association's banking law committee and the business law section of the Law Council of Australia.
The upcoming conference, Banking and Finance in the New World - Beyond the GFC, will be attended by finance securities and banking lawyers, and those working in that industry.
“The Global Financial Crisis has been a challenging period for the profession world-wide. This conference presents us with a great opportunity to hear from leaders in the banking and finance fields, and to examine how the GFC has changed the legal landscape in these areas,” Law Council president Glenn Ferguson said.
The conference will examine a range of topics, including directors’ duties, restructuring and foreign direct investment.
A string of expert lawyers will present at the event, including William Johnston from Dublin firm Arthur Cox, who will co-chair the conference, and Kathleen Farrell from the Law Council’s business law section.
The conference will be held from 8-9 April 2010 at the InterContinental Hotel in Sydney.
