SYDNEY PLAYWRIGHT and lawyer on-the-side Tony Laumberg has penned a new legal farce, now playing at the TAP Gallery in Darlinghurst.
The couple have endured a childless marriage for over 25 years when suddenly Cheryl (Clare Pickering), a young law graduate from Cessnock, arrives on their door step claiming to be Henry’s illegitimate daughter and wanting a job at his firm.
“This causes great problems because he has never had any children, not to his knowledge, and his wife has always wanted children and so he has to try to hide who this woman is who has turned up,” Laumberg said.
A notable Indian psychiatrist Rahmish J Punjab (Gil Balfas) gets caught in the drama, seeing both Henry and Margaret at the same time without the other one knowing.
Laumberg, who was behind previous sell-out comedies Unsolicited Male, Lawyer! Lawyer!, and Lawyers in Love, said a large percentage of his audience is usually made up of lawyers — who he admits provide him with an endless source of material.
“I’m writing about the kinds of people that I know. But I also want to get across that lawyers can be normal people too and have normal problems. But I just have elements in there that I’m aware of and that I can write about in an informed way. So I’m not making things up as I go along,” he said.
The play will be showing from 2 May to 3 June in Sydney’s Darlinghurst.
