Minters woos UK disputes expert
Minter Ellison has scored a coup in the rebuilding of its Perth office by luring an international disputes specialist to join the firm’s partnership.

Michael Hayles will join Minters’ national dispute resolution team from UK firm Nabarro. He will become the seventh partner at the firm’s Perth office.
“We are delighted to welcome a practitioner of Michael's calibre and experience to our national dispute resolution team and to our growing team in Perth,” said Ross Freeman, head of Minters’ litigation and dispute resolution division.
“His wide range of experience in international disputes will be particularly valuable on the ground in Western Australia given that market's proximity to Asia's arbitration centres and the significant international investment occurring in that state.”
Hayles’ practice has focused on international and multi-jurisdictional cases, acting for clients on banking, corporate, e-commerce, tax and fraud matters. This has included mining and infrastructure disputes, and he has been regularly involved in international arbitrations.
Hayles, who worked in Australia in the early 90s, will join Minters’ recent recruits from Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Adam Handley and Richard Guit, at the Perth office.
Minters’ current recruitment drive comes following the integration of the Perth division into the firm’s national network – a move which came off the back of American firm Squire Sanders poaching 14 of its partners last August.
