The Victorian Legal Services Board (LSB) has injected $3.7 million into 15 projects aimed at enhancing Victoria's justice system.
The prevention of violence against women was chosen as the priority theme for this year's major grants, and nine of the 15 projects funded focus on this theme.
"The board believes violence against women is an important issue which affects not only the victims, but also our legal system, health system and the economy," said LSB chairperson Colin Neave AM.
"We believe the justice system has a key role to play in this issue, which is why we chose to target this issue through the Major Grants stream."
Projects funded in response to the priority theme include Women with Disabilities Victoria, which was awarded $216,188 to assess the incidence of violence against women with disabilities in Victoria; the North Melbourne Legal Service, which received $293,332 to support a partnership between legal and non-legal organisations to reduce violence against women through legal education of health professionals; and Peninsula Health, which received $242,000 to document the legal and criminal response to dealing with adolescent violence in the home, as well as the experiences of victims of adolescent offenders and make recommendations for improvement.
